The Posted WRAP UP (September 2021)

Updated: Nov 14, 2021

Here at UK Underground Rap, we're committed to connecting the scene in any way we can. That's why we've linked up with Posted UK to bring you a monthly round-up of underground music!

What a month it’s been! With September and sadly summer coming to an end the lovely people at UK Underground Rap have given us the chance to highlight a few of our favourite singles, eps, albums and everything in between that we’ve been listening to over the course of the past month.

Obviously to anyone with their ear to the ground, it’s been a huge month for new music. Little Simz returned with a strong contender for album of the year with “Sometimes I Might Be Introvert”, and taking a visit to our good pals in North America, we saw the long-awaited drop of “DONDA” and “Certified Lover Boy” by Kanye West and Drake respectively. But we want to draw a spotlight on a few artists a little bit closer to home that may not be on your radar just yet. After all, they don’t call it UK Underground Rap for nothing!

Singles:

Rachel Chinouriri - If Only

Danny Sanchez + Nikhil Beats - Duro

BXKS - Mean Amount

Feux + Xadi - Noctis

Yiiga + KiLLOWEN - UP

SOFY - Strawberry Milkshake

RADA - FWTG

SOFY - Strawberry Milkshake

The debut single “Strawberry Milkshake'' from SOFY has been a clear standout for us this month. SOFY is displaying a great deal of potential and joins the list of exciting musicians coming from the Leicester area. With acts such as Easy Life, Sainte and wewantwraiths all paving their own way in 2021, it’s clear that UK based talent is not just limited to London.

With this light-hearted indie-pop track, clear influences from elements of UK hip-hop shine through. A highlight of the track being SOFY’s innate ability to craftily weave together simple yet intricate rhymes and coupled with an incredibly high level of production makes for some grade a top tier easy listening. It’ll be very exciting to see what is in store for the 24-year-old singer-songwriter, who has only been making music for the past 12 months. SOFY is one to watch!

EPs:

Kwaku Asante - Blue Solstice: Volume 1

Venna - VENOLOGY

KeepVibesNear - Now That We Know

Hamzaa - Full Circle

KeepVibesNear - Now That We Know

Romford based Alternative R&B artist KeepVibesNear has long been on our radar, and with his latest release “Now That We Know.” it looks as if he’ll be there for quite some time. With this latest EP, KeepVibesNear strings together 3 brand new tracks to join a series of singles he’s released over the course of the year: “SRS”, “M25” (Feat. Kieron Boothe), and Gently (Feat. Evie Golding).

Across the project, KeepVibesNear engages you with honest lyricism touching on themes of modern relationships, crystal clear storytelling through varied styles of delivery. With tracks like “Passion, Burning”, “Now That We Know.” Will be the perfect soundtrack to round off your summer. KeepVibesNear provides a feeling of familiarity throughout this EP that grabs your attention and connects.

Albums:

Sam Wise - Free Game

With his most recent mixtape “Free Game”, Sam Wise once again shows whether he’s working solo or with the group “House of Pharaohs”, he is well and truly in a league of his own.

At a 40 minute run time and 13 tracks, this is Sam Wise’s longest solo project to date. Even still, he is never lacking energy as he skillfully connects together infectious light-hearted rhymes to put a smile on your face. The best example of this comes with the track “Carousel” as the dynamic South London artist refuses to hold back over the top of this bass heavy guitar-led beat courtesy of ac flow.

Over the course of the project, Sam Wise enlists help from the likes of Venna, Jesse James Solomon, Knucks, Lord Apex, Camille Munn, Yung Fume and MR. IAMNEXT assemble the pieces for this mixtape in the perfect order. Free Game brings out the signature flair we’ve come to expect from Sam Wise and delivers it at a whole other level.
